I have a Blue Nile 23 named "BEAUTIFUL NOISE". I bought her on the 6/3/09 and brought her home from Windsor on the river Thames through 59 locks including the 7 lock Hanford flight, using three canals, 3 rivers, 2 underground tunnels (which I was told she would not fit through), one aquaduct and 5 miles of tidal waters. I managed to break the alternator, propeller, and the head gasket on the way, and apart from a short tow when I grounded the propeller she made it under her own power, and I made all repairs myself, including fitting the prop in a full tide race on the Thames to get to Brentford lock at high water! The journey took 8 days including 4 days on Chiswick peir waiting for parts. Apart from that she is a fine boat and I am very pleased with her. She has a B1800 Volvo engine and AQ100 outdrive. With the sea prop she could reach 10 knots at 3000 rpm. I do not know her speed now as she has a much finer prop for the canal and I rarely exceed 1500 rpm. because of the wash. At 1000 rpm the wash is hardly noticeable and this gives me 4 knots, the maximum allowed on the canal. I intend to refit the interior somewhat, and possibly fit a diesel engine if funds allow and if the outdrive is strong enough. She is now moored on the River Stort at Harlow in Essex. |
